IKEA Light Up Hope Program

Transforming Homes Affected by Climate Change

Hong Kong’s Ha Pak Nai is renowned for its natural beauty. Unfortunately, land degradation, heavy rain, floods, and other extreme weather conditions in recent years have plagued the region. The residents of Ha Pak Nai did not have the means to change their old and energy-consuming home appliances, contributing to the acceleration of global warming. These appliances were also at risk of causing fires and electrical leakage. In addition, the exorbitant electricity fees burdened the residents greatly. As a result, Ha Pak Nai’s residents became victims of climate change.

IKEA collaborated with A Plastic Ocean Foundation (APO) to launch the IKEA Light Up Hope campaign. With APO’s assistance, IKEA used collected funds to replace energy-consuming bulbs and appliances in the residents’ homes with energy-efficient ones. Electrical inspection was also carried out to ensure safety. At the same time, IKEA and APO shared the latest disaster prevention and evacuation guidelines with the residents and distributed prevention toolkits for storm surges and floods. Moreover, the residents were provided with environmental education and knowledge of disaster risk reduction to strengthen their ability to deal with floods, heat waves, typhoons, and other extreme weather conditions. These efforts have successfully transformed living conditions in Ha Pak Nai.

A Resounding Success

IKEA invites everyone to support the Light Up Hope campaign. Your participation will help us transform the living conditions of the needy and invest in a brighter future for all!
