IKEA Hong Kong Partners With Carousell to Give Secondhand Furnitures a Second Life
As an enterprise committed to promoting sustainable development, IKEA hopes to spread awareness of recycling among the public to combat the worsening global warming crisis. Thus, the company partnered with Carousell to create an IKEA microsite on the platform. This microsite operated on sustainable development principles, such as reducing waste and making the most of an item. IKEA’s secondhand goods were sold on the microsite, offering consumers with a tight budget the opportunity to purchase their ideal furniture at affordable prices. At the same time, IKEA encouraged the public to make more eco-friendly choices in their everyday lives.
In addition, special areas were set up at four of IKEA’s stores in Hong Kong (Kowloon Bay, Shatin, Tsuen Wan, and Sai Wan Ho) for a limited time. Various display items and discontinued furniture were displayed in these areas and sold at discounted prices. Consumers who were looking to add new items to their home decor might consider purchasing these secondhand furniture pieces. Although they had been used multiple times, they were still in good condition and functioned properly. Giving these products a second life could reduce waste and ensure sustainable consumption. Through this collaboration, IKEA raised its product turnover rate. Through this collaboration, IKEA raised its product turnover rate and gave the old furniture pieces a second life.
